Will Brexit bring an about-turn on F-Gas Regulations?

A while back, we wrote about the EU passing laws to reduce emissions from fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases), including hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

As the UK moves to leave the EU and extricate ourselves from EU laws, there may be serious implications for laws passed in EU courts that impact on UK businesses and individuals.

However, although the F-Gas regulations originated in Brussels, they were subsequently passed by Westminster and are enshrined in UK law and will therefore not change when the UK leaves the EU. The Environment Agency has stated its commitment to the regulations and would seem highly unlikely to backtrack on this.

A more pressing concern for businesses will be the price increases that can be expected as HFC production falls due to the phase down. To mitigate this, we encourage businesses not to delay in sourcing HFC alternatives, including R134a replacement gases. We can help you to source the right R134a alternative to meet your refrigeration needs. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss your options.
